BANGKOK (Bernama): The flood situation in southern Thailand is exhibiting signs of recovery as floodwaters continue to recede, narrowing the affected area from five provinces to three - Narathiwat, Yala, and Pattani.

However, the number of affected households continues to climb, reaching nearly 100,000 in the three provinces.

Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), Chaiwat Junthirapong, said that 93,220 households in 25 districts across Narathiwat, Yala, and Pattani have been affected by the floods.

Narathiwat was the worst hit, with 62,613 households in 13 districts experiencing floods. Yala (15,457 households) and Pattani (15,150 households) were also impacted.

"The floodwaters have receded in all areas,” he said.

Chaiwat added that DDPM is coordinating with local governments and relevant agencies to prioritise relief efforts, including cleanup and repairing damaged infrastructure, for affected villagers.

Meanwhile, satellite images from Cosmo-SkyMed-4, released by the Geo-informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), showed over 14,000 hectares of land in five southern provinces-Narathiwat, Yala, Pattani, Songkhla, and Satun - submerged by floodwaters, impacting more than 27,000 houses. - Bernama
