Disaster authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan severe weather including reported strong winds, lightning strikes and heavy rain caused damage and fatalities in the province on 10 and 11 June 2023.

The districts of Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan and Karak were severely affected, according to reports by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

At least 15 people died and 100 were injured in multiple villages in Bannu District during the severe weather. Around 68 houses were also damaged or destroyed dozens of livestock were lost. A child was killed after a house collapsed during heavy rain in Dera Ismail Khan, PDMA said.

Bannu recorded 27 mm of rain in 24 hours to 11 June 2023. Kakul village in the Tehsil and District Abbottabad recorded 38 mmm during the same period.

Meanwhile, southern parts of the country are preparing for the potential impacts of Tropical Cyclone Biparjoy, which is currently situated over the Arabia Sea and is expected to make landfall somewhere between Pakistan’s Sindh Province and India’s Gujarat State on 14 to 15 June 2023.
