ICFM – Webinar No.5
Flooding and the Value of Water
March 22, 2021

The ICFM Webinar No.5 will celebrate the World Water Day. This year's theme is VALUING WATER. The Webinar will address the link between flooding and valuing of water. Achieving universal, safely managed water and sanitation services by 2030, as envisioned by the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, is projected to require significant capital expenditures of (estimated at USD 114 billion per year by the World Bank). Investment on that scale, along with accompanying policy reforms, can be motivated by a growing appreciation of the value of water. Yet, our ability to value water, and incorporate these values into water governance, is inadequate. Newly recognized cascading negative impacts of water scarcity, pollution, and flooding underscore the need to change the way we value water.

The Fifth ICFM webinar will focus on Flooding and the Value of Water by discussing the challenges posed by the need to change the way we value water. This 60-minute event will include three presentations that will bring to the light many issues like climate change, uncertainty, water governance, extreme events, non-stationarity and other, as they relate flooding and different ways of valuing water.
